Ziggurats

The oldest civilization is located in between the Tigris and Euphrates rivers, it is a region called Sumer. Sumerians were famous for their pyramid shaped temples that they used to build.

The sides went up like a staircase. The greatest ziggurat was in Ur. There was seven layers each was smaller than the last. Ziggurats were one hundred sixty ft. high and covered thirty thousand sq. ft. Inside, at the top, there was a couch and table for Nanna, the moon god; just in case he came for a visit. Each ziggurat was dedicated to a different god, of which they had many.
